My thoughts in the just concluded Lagos State Climate Change Summit
I was fortunate to be part of the 3rd Lagos State Climate Change Summit 2011 organised by the Lagos State Ministry of Environment, and I must confess it was a thrilling experience. It only increased my respect and admiration for the man steering the affairs of Lagos State, His Excellency, Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola SAN, one of the shinning stars in today’s utter darkness.
Keynote speaker at the Lagos State Climate Change Summit was Dr. Kenny Tan (Asia’s Al Gore) and host of others.
Dr. Kenny Tan said that climate change has created increased opportunities for weather risk transfer and financial innovation for individuals and businesses from across the world.
Other speakers also presented their papers and at the end a communique was read to the hearing of all attendees. Click here to view some of the photographs of the Lagos State Climate Change Summit.
The 3rd Lagos State climate change summit was well organised and attended international summit that brought together scholars, environmental advocates and companies from Nigeria and other parts of the world. The theme of the summit was “Charting a Road Map for Combating Climate Change in Nigeria”.
On a personal note, I’ll conclude that the Lagos State Government has performed the most when it comes to creating awareness on climate change and actually implementing strategies that will ensure reduction of it’s impact to the environment, and for this reason I give kudos the Governor of the state and folks at the Lagos State Ministry of environment.
