You may not be fully aware of the effect of global climate change or how it can affect your future and the future of generations to come. These problems won’t be resolved nor will it get solves just because you do not know or care about it. The fact is that our world is currently experiencing issues caused by global warming and it continues to threaten mankind. World leaders have been in constant negotiations i.e. the recent Copenhagen conference, as they discuss how to resolve these issues or at best reduce the effect on the earth. These negotiations may have a significant impact on our environment if all goes well.
One of the many reasons why world leaders are now more concerned about the effect of global climate change is the fact that the predictions made years ago are occurring – the rising sea level will continue to rise if the effect of global warming is not stopped or at least slowed down. In fact, according to the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR) the probability of the sea rising by as much as 1 meter can happen before the century ends.

Global Climate Change
Significant changes in temperature are also part of the effect of global climate change and it is therefore expected that the weather will become warmer and warmer, likely causing the west Antarctic ice to float directly into the ocean, and in turn increase the sea levels further. This threat will continue to rise, as the temperature increases every day.
Aside from what is highlighted above, the melting of the polar cap is probably the main reason why there will be a big increase in the rise of sea levels, as the Andes, Himalayas, and Greenland cap continue to experience warmer temperature. Moreover, the biggest ice kingdom is also melting really fast over the last 50 years and even the Arctic condition is worse than you can imagine. No wonder, low lying areas are the first to suffer nowadays whenever there are typhoons in some countries.
You must understand that the global climate change is already at a critical level, and if the world leaders as well as you and I as individuals do not try to do something about it as early as now, then global catastrophe is inevitable. As you can already see, frequent typhoons and freak weather conditions are already being felt in different parts of the world, and will continue to devastate our homes and livelihood.
We as individuals have the obligation to prevent it from happening; we owe it to the children of this generation and generations to come. We may not be able to significantly change what has happened to Mother Nature but we can do something however small, to make sure that the conditions of the earth improves and it starts with you and the kind of products you use and how green you have chosen to become. Don’t you think going green will benefit the world?

It is doubtful that enough will be done it time. The logistics are just too great along with human inertia to change. Everyone would have to immediately go to one child families, living on non-CO2 producing power and agriculture, eat all locally grown food, travel in electric or hybrid vehicles, reduce world travel and trade to a small fraction of what it is now, totally stop almost all fossil fuel burning, and completely change their morals and behaviors to sustainability. It is probable time has run out or time to implement the necessary changes has run out, but maybe not.
The amount of people who have “gone green,” in totality, is a small percentage. I suppose, it is a character of humanity to have hope, so the more who go green and the faster they do it, the better the chances for future generations.
Excellent piece of content, Moguitar. I suppose you are among the few % that have “Gone Green”? Like you rightly pointed out, it may be a rather difficult task for the world to go green at once because of the grave changes we have to make – I agree with you 100%. However, I usually ask this question, so what should the world do in this situation, sit back, relax and act helplessly?
Honestly, I am among the few who have gone green in my little world. I use and promote green products. I just believe we should all do the little we can, we can't continue to act ignorant.
The Nature Conservancy is joining with policy makers, community members, businesses, scientists, industry leaders and others to slow the pace of climate change. We work to reduce the accumulation of heat-trapping gases in the atmosphere and help natural areas adjust to the impacts of climate change.
Apparently the Bolivian President didn't get the memo from the global warming 'experts': “sorry but we faked all the global warming information in order to make money and basically to keep the U.S. under the thumb of the rest of the world for all eternity”.
I personally live a “green life” having built an all solar house and Earthship, driving a hybrid, composting, low water use, and the biggest thing, one child when I was 39 years old. We can write to leaders, and media. We can talk to others about it and comment on blogs, teaching others about the various ecological problems and how to deal with them.
It amazes me that there are people who disregard all the scientific and personal evidence from long years of observation, to deny the severity of these ecological problems. It is bad enough to have so many living in ignorance, let alone constantly deal with these anti-green people.
They deny there is any effect from humans increasing the atmospheric CO2 33%. They deny that major aquifers are running dry. They deny the unseen and seen pollution in our rivers and oceans. They deny that the planet is grossly overpopulated. They deny the effects of soil degradation/depletion. They deny the economic effects of post peak oil and gross overpopulation. They try to get others to believe that nothing is wrong. Most often for their own profit or rationalization of their negative behaviors.
Their success in delaying meaningful change over the past 20 years is evident in the 7 trash gyres that developed in the world's oceans, and the one hundred estuary dead zones that developed. They delayed and stopped meaningful reduction in emissions and population, and now we are at worse than worst case scenarios.
As Professor Al Bartlett said, humanity's greatest shortcoming is the failure to understand the exponential function. The momentum involved in population and climate change is not understood by the denialists or the average person. Slowing the pace of growth is not good enough, what is required is reversing the growth of population and greenhouse gases, pollution and depletion of resources. That is, these things are required to prevent human, and millions of other species, extinction in the long term (2-300 years). These things would mitigate, but not stop, overshoot collapse effects around mid century and before.
I acknowledge the great job Nature Conservancy is making and to that I say Thumbs Up!
WOW! You are way ahead of some if not most of us that love Nature. I commend you and the giant strides you have made!
I very much agree with your position especially on people who assume that the climate change issue is one big conspiracy as seen in the movie 2012. Personally, I don't need anyone to tell me that the air we breathe is no longer clean, cancer and other diseases are on the rise, the cities are over populated and over crowded etc. I don't think all is well with our planet and so I choose to remain a part of the solution by making little, purposeful contributions i.e. writing about it and using green products.
With your effort and millions of others all over the world, I believe we may be able to slow down global warming and it's effects on our planet.

Quite informative and enlightening!
