		<div style="clear:both;"></div><p>A good <strong>domain name</strong> is synonymous to having a good name. Most parents are usually happy after child birth, so they carefully select a name for the child and in places like Africa, extended family members also give the child a special name.</p>
<p>This is to prove that names are not just cultural but very significant.</p>
<p><strong>Domain name defined</strong></p>
<p>A <em>domain name</em> is basically the address of a website online, so for instance this blog is called <em>Conditioned for Accomplishments (CFA) </em>with the <span style="text-decoration: underline;">domain name</span> <a href="http://www.cfagbata.com">www.CFAgbata.com</a> which I formed out my first, middle and surname names.</p>
<h2>Tips to help you select a good Domain name:</h2>
<p><strong>1. Go for a Keyword Rich Domain name</strong></p>
<p><strong><a target="_blank" href="/seo" target="_blank">SEO</a></strong> again? Someone might say not again, why so much noise about SEO?</p>
<p>Well, it&#8217;s simply because <span style="text-decoration: underline;">SEO professionals</span> now play a major role both in choosing a good domain name as well as building a new website, so SEO plays a key role here.</p>
<p>CFAgbata.com is no doubt becoming an authority domain by the day but this domain name is nowhere near being keyword rich. Think about it, who is going to search for <em>cfagbata</em> online? It is not a product nor a service, so it&#8217;s tough.</p>
<p>Now, compare the domain name CFAagbata.com with <a target="_blank" href="http://www.AwesomeBizTips.com">www.AwesomeBizTips.com</a>, owned by Fayo Williams, one of my partners and students. She has a much better keyword rich domain that is likely to do much better because ordinarily people are searching for &#8220;biz tips&#8221;</p>
<p>Now am I worried about the CFAgbata.com domain name not being keyword rich? The answer is a Yes. As early as yesterday, I asked my US based SEO colleague what he thought about it? Below is a screenshot of his reply;</p>

<p><strong>Marketing takeaway:</strong> Make sure your domain name contains a highly searched keyword or keyword phrase.</p>
<p><strong>2. A Good Domain Name should be Short</strong></p>
<p>Yes you are free to register a 50 word domain name but why do that? Imagine the pain you would put your clients and subscribers through if you do that?</p>
<p>Imagine someone says to you, my domain name is callmeandIwillbetherewiththefoodforyoualone.com? (this will be every hilarious to see or hear). This is one of the reasons I chose to stick with CFAgbata.com, though not keyword rich, it is only 7 characters which means it meets one of the criteria of a good domain name.</p>
<p>I remember back then it was a struggle between fredagbata.com and CFAgbata.com, then I had not yet come up with this whole <strong>CFA concept</strong>. I actually registered the domain name fredagbata.com but the guy refused to develop my blog even after payment.</p>
<blockquote><p>Boy was I sad? You bet I was but guess what? I am glad he never did because that bad experience helped me come up with the CFA concept which I am so very proud of today. This is a case of turning a bad experience into a good story!</p></blockquote>
<p><strong>Marketing Takeaway: </strong>Insist on a shorter domain name, if possible try other extensions. The shorter the better.</p>
<p><strong>3. Register some other extensions of your domain name</strong></p>
<p>Domain names come with different extensions while some i.e. .com, .net, .org, are referred to as Top level domains (TLDs) others are known as country specific domains i.e. .com.ng is for Nigeria, .com.uk is for United Kingdom, .co.za is for South Africa.</p>
<p>Almost, all countries of the world have theirs and some smart nations are using theirs as a foreign exchange earner. For example .tv is the country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for the Islands of Tuvalu, a small but smart country that has earned some much from this gift of Nature.</p>
<p>I understand that Nigeria actually has another exclusive <strong>.ng</strong> that is sold for as much as One Million Dollars ($1,000,000) each (I have not verified the exact cost) but to prove that it really exists here is Google&#8217;s version of the. ng url <a target="_blank" href="http://google.ng">www.google.ng</a> &#8211; clicking this redirects you to the main www.google.com site.</p>
<p><strong>Marketing Takeaway: </strong>Don&#8217;t bother registering all your domain extensions, just register a few. In my case, I registered www.CFAgbata.com and <strong>CFAgbata.net</strong> (which I use for sending email newsletters) and then I registered a country specific domain name <strong>www.cfa.com.ng</strong> to protect the CFA brand locally. Both are redirected to this blog.</p>
<p><em>Notice I said some and not all. You can only register all if you are as a big as <a target="_blank" href="https://plus.google.com/u/0/101606937668394516181/about" target="_blank">Google</a>.</em></p>
<p>4<strong>. Avoid Domain Names with Hyphens</strong></p>
<p>If you are a newbie to the internet space then heed my advice and warning: Avoid a domain name that has an hyphen.</p>
<p>Yes there are a couple of very successful websites that have domain names with hypens, which means there is an exception to this rule. Should that be a reason for you not to adhere to my advice? Well its up you but I encourage to obey.</p>
<p><strong>Some Exceptions to this Rule</strong></p>

<p>Hardly can one win an argument against the fact that thinking about how to market a <a target="_blank" href="/www.cfagbata.com/strategy-development/">business </a>is equal to thinking about how to influence or persuade potential buyers. I don’t know how long ago you, as an experienced or aspiring business owner, have had an intensive reading on the psychology of marketing. I did this of recent and all what I discovered have been so fascinating.</p>
<p>Let’s kick in into the business clue straightaway.</p>
<p>Reading the title above, you have been made curious, I suppose, to know what being a professor especially will have to do with <span style="text-decoration: underline;">business</span> clues. This is it. Professors have esteemed value within and even outside the academia. They are bestowed with high level of authority, particularly within their scholastic specialties. They are owed due recognition based on the attribute of authority. Among the lawyers and similar circles of experts, the same pattern holds and this quality remains ever influential.</p>
<p>Now, let’s look at the use of authority in business.</p>
<p>In business, the application of authority is also possible, though in a stealth manner, and it is observed that many <em>business</em> owners are not optimizing the use of this great marketing psychology trait. Yet, this is one of the best perception-based tools business owners should tap into. Why? The reason is that we highly tend to dance to the tune of authoritative entities.</p>
<p>Mind you, I am not advocating that businesses should become imposing in relating with their targets. This wouldn’t even work well for business advancement. If you can recollect along with me, our parents have thought us about giving respect to authorities. Our teachers, the priests or pastors, the lawyers, the police, the government, the boss or any other significant others including our peers; they all help us in realizing the need to give social or civil respect to authorities. Many of these authorities have physical symbols which, when seen, naturally make us prone to display due respect and decorum. When the authorities direct, instruct, protect, advocate for us or direct us in some ways, we are very likely to become submissive because of the value that we perceive of them.</p>
<p>Materials such as royal insignia, badges, regalia and even titles (president, governors, professor, mayor, engineer, millionaire) as well as possession related exclusive products make us adore their bearers. Imagine a co-spectator with whom you were cheering up football players yesterday and today, you met in uniform as a top-ranked police officer or as a medical staff in surgeon scrubs or in doctor’s coat with a stethoscope hanged on his neck. You will agree that the latter person you met will be more influential on your actions than that person of yesterday.</p>
<p>Your reactions to authority are found to be natural and quite tending to give immediate ‘yes’ answers to relatively all given directions. The influence involved is so powerful that it becomes a norm for interrelating with the authorities in a no-look-back manner. The authorities, therefore, care so much for this norm and try to maintain and maximize its use as far as possible. Personally and professionally, the concerned always ensure that the authoritative values placed on them are not allowed to decline. This is where the clue is for business owners to leverage.</p>
<p>For you the business owners, your ‘authoritative’ influence is called credibility. If this is ensured to become an attribute of the relationship with your customers or clients, the results will be repeat buying, referrals, upsells and even volume buying; a sum of which can interpret to faster and more than double or triple profits. Like the authority of a professor or a lawyer is fostered, business credibility is esteemed by customers or clients and it does serve a business for long if not left to be tarnished.</p>
<h2>How Businesses can Ensure High-Level Credibility</h2>
<p>Top on the list of what you must do to ensure increasingly valued credible posture in your business are:</p>
<p><strong>Build Trust</strong></p>
<p>Build trust for yourself. Do the things that will make your customers to be assured of your dedication, service and reliability.</p>
<p><strong>Be Present</strong></p>
<p>This simply put is that you must engage your customers interactively and you must not be tired wherever your customers want you engaged in terms of communication, clarifications, support and the likes.</p>
<p><strong>Be Up to Date</strong></p>
<p>Never be a laggard in your industry in terms of positive trends, technology and industry best practices. Always showcase these in all the ways you relate with your customers and don&#8217;t forget to put all your customer interactions on the platforms on demand.  The social media is an example of such platforms of interaction.</p>
<p><strong>Be ‘Proud’</strong></p>
<p>Be proud (i.e. poised) to tell the stories of your achievements of your business and about customer relationship. Be proud to have and disseminate the testimonials regarding your business as provided by your customers or clients.</p>
<p><strong>Build your Brand</strong></p>
<p>This is the totality of doing all you have got to do to ensure that the business standard or model you want is achieved. In fact, building your brand means building your business; not excluding your personal brand.</p>
<p>One more thing about building your business credibility</p>
<p>You have to build it yourself.</p>
<p>When engaging other people to help in building your business ‘authority’, you have to take the lead and get deeply involved in bench-marking and putting it to practice. This is to point it out to you that you can never be isolated in building your own business credibility.</p>
<p>Note it again that you cannot be authoritative on your customers. Unlike the lawyers, doctors, governors (etc.) who are publicly or officially or corporately or professionally recognized, you are to provide the proof that you are what you say you are. Note this also: building your credibility is not a one-off process as it must be monitored, maintained and tailored towards making profits unceasingly.</p>

They are the ones who would probably feel ashamed to turn you down. They may not believe in you initially, but at least they will try your product or service because you are family, a friend etc. You must be able to turn these first set of customers into your loyalist, and then your marketers.</p>

<p><strong>1. Seize every opportunity you have to talk about your business. </strong></p>
<p>They may have always known you as a different person. But now, let them begin to see you more in light of your business. That way, they start to take you serious. And importantly too, they learn to also take your business seriously as well as you consciously taking your <strong>Business Growth</strong> seriously.</p>
<p><strong>2. Give free stuff. </strong></p>
<p>Offer trials, free stuffs, anything to give them an idea what you can do or what your product can do for them. But, at every step of the way when you give the free stuff, carefully let them know the market value of the things that you are giving them for free. Usually, people will offer you something in appreciation which may even be more than your selling price if your product is really good.</p>
<p><strong>3. Offer incentives for referrals</strong>.</p>
<p>If your product is really good, friends and family will be just too proud to tell people about you. Reward them for doing this and you just got yourself the most committed marketers you can ever get. At no salary. This is a time tested <em>Business Growth</em> strategy.</p>
<p><strong>4. Simple small mannerisms counts.</strong></p>
<p>They may not mean much to you, but it could make a world of difference to your business. Return phone calls/emails, deliver when/as promised, follow-up referrals, be on time for appointments and apologize if you’re late or you can’t make it. It means that you respect and take people serious. And they will like you and take you serious in return. This is necessary for your Business Growth.</p>
<p><strong>5. Sincerely, care for people and show that you care. </strong></p>
<p>Don’t be too engrossed in selling to a pretty lady to fail to notice the fact that her hair is beautifully done. Compliments work magic, especially when they are true and sincere. Remember important dates like birthdays, wedding anniversaries and commemorate such dates with your customers.</p>
<p>People will not care what you have for them until they know that you really care for them.</p>
<p><strong>6. Avoid discussing controversial topics. </strong></p>
<p>Discussions like politics and religion you must avoid. Usually, people wouldn’t ordinary be bothered about such things as long as they get their money’s worth in value. But they will not forgive you if you make them look stupid for something they are passionate about.</p>
<p>Your business suffers for it. This something you should avoid at all cost except you don&#8217;t want to enjoy Business Growth.</p>
<p><strong>7. Agreeably disagree. </strong></p>
<p>It’s not a crime to know more than your customer – that is why they are patronizing you in the first place. But it is a crime to make your customer look stupid. So, whenever you must unavoidably differ to your customer on any issue, do it in a way that still makes your customer look good. The old saying still remains true – the customer is always right.</p>

<p><strong>8. Listen more and talk less. </strong></p>
<p>Criticisms may not always be positive and constructive. But you must take them in good stride. Their money entitles your customers to feel they have the right to an opinion on how you wear your hair. Of course they don’t. But you need not quibble over every bit of babble. Just focus on the criticisms that matters and improve on your product and service delivery.</p>
<p><strong>9. The relationship is more important than the sale. </strong></p>
<p>Always have this at the back of your mind. Even when relationships go sour – as they may, salvage what you can of it even if the person involved is presently not one of your biggest customers. Tomorrow, he might refer someone to your business that will give you the biggest check you ever received in your life.</p>
<p><strong>10. Integrity counts.  </strong></p>
<p>Work hard to be honest and positive. Always be noble, respectful and genuine. Even criminals will rather deal with people of integrity. But nobody – not even the criminals – will want to do business with you if you are known to be fraudulent. There is no such thing as espirit-de-corps among crooks.</p>

<p>Many aspiring and emerging entrepreneurs looking to start or take their businesses online are worried how they would build their brand on the Internet. Well, an <strong>Internet Business Consultant</strong> can help you get started but the truth is that you can also start off the process on your own.</p>
<h3>4 Simple Strategies I have used to Build my Personal Brand Online</h3>
<p><strong>1. Answer Questions online</strong></p>
<p>There are so many ways to get started with answering questions but my most recommended way is to start your own blog. I once wrote a post titled <strong>4 Reasons why you should learn </strong><strong><a target="_blank" href="/how-to-blog">how to blog.</a></strong></p>
<p>A blog is basically a platform used to express your opinion on certain issues, so with a blog you can write on just about any topic. For instance, with your blog, you can position yourself to be an online business coach providing online business solutions or start a blog to protest fuel subsidy removal in Nigeria or any other Government policy you don&#8217;t like. It is also advisable to buy some <strong>SEO Services</strong> after you set up the blog.</p>

<p>Your signature is simply another medium for brand expansion and each time someone sees your signature you achieve one of your branding objectives. But I suggest you Keep it Simple and Short (KISS) though.</p>

<p>For example, if you are running a vacation business and want to inform the public of the discounts you are giving away for all Christmas bookings, a newsletter will be an effective way of getting the word out.</p>
<p>Note that without quality content development, you newsletter might not achieve its purpose, depending on your writing skills though.</p>
<p><strong>4. Social Media Marketing Strategy</strong></p>
<p>Social media is a powerful channel to build your personal brand online. Social networking sites such as LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube and Facebook are one of the most compelling ways to connect and share information with your network.</p>
<p>Modern businesses are slowly learning the full potential of this powerful channel and acknowledging the fact that they can use these sites to positively impact their brand, thereby improving bottomline.</p>
<p>A properly executed <strong>Social Media Marketing</strong> Strategy implementation will play an important role in building a good personal brand online, just as I have been able to accomplish over the years.</p>

<p>Has the daily grill of your <em>small business</em> prevented you from coming up with fresh marketing strategies? If that is the case with you, fasten your seat belt as I plunge into the array of swords every entrepreneur must have in the armoury.<strong></strong></p>
<h2><strong>1.    </strong><strong>Craft Attention – Grabbing Headlines</strong></h2>
<p>“Hey! Is this just about my advertising?” did I hear you say. Nope. It’s about everything a <span style="text-decoration: underline">small business</span> produces, from emails to flyers and Vacancy Ads.</p>
<p>Starting with your website, according to “Google’s Search Engine Optimization Starter Guide” you should create a unique title for each page in your site. This title should contain a frequently searched word or phrase to make it easier for your page to come up when people are looking for the products or services you offer.  Sounds like Greek? Holler at your designer and your wish will be his or her command.</p>
<p>Use headlines and sub –headlines in marketing your proposals and sales letters – this tip earned me a six figure training job a while ago, the headline was even quoted on the Purchase Order – Lol!</p>
<p>Interesting, curiosity – arousing &#8211; headlines also help small businesses increase their email open  – rate, while a smart targeted headline on your “WANTED” (alive I hope) adverts show you mean business in your selection process.<strong></strong></p>
<h2><strong>2.    </strong><strong>Boldness is a Marketing Strategy!</strong></h2>
<p>I have a real life story on this one. Sometime ago, I attended an entrepreneurship course organised by a former First Lady in Nigeria. Any thought of sitting back to enjoy doughnuts and coffee while discussing marketing strategies vanished on the very first day as we were put to work right away. The first assignment was to think of a small business we would start, make profit from and exit within the 2week duration of the course.</p>
<p>As most of us were sweating over this “emergency” business, a certain young man put on the cap of boldness and calmly announced to Her Excellency that he would be launching a notepad filled with African Proverbs and she is hereby invited to be the Chief Launcher!</p>
<p>No prizes for guessing who made the most money and swept away the “Best <strong>Small Business</strong> Prize” at the end of the course. I am sure Richard Branson who reportedly stage-managed getting lost in a hot air balloon for publicity’s sake would have been mightily proud of him.<strong></strong></p>
<h2><strong>3.    </strong><strong>Create a valuable Free Gift</strong></h2>
<p>Clients are sometimes overwhelmed with mundane gifts like Diaries, Business Card Holders and the like (I hope someone won’t get my hide for this!)  The 21<sup>st</sup> Century Entrepreneur needs to come up with a more innovative marketing strategy.<a href="http://www.cfagbata.com/5-marketing-strategies-for-your-small-business-in-2012/rely-free-cd-cover-3/" rel="attachment wp-att-7070"><img class="alignright size-medium wp-image-7070" src="http://www.cfagbata.com/mywp/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/Rely-Free-CD-Cover2-281x300.jpg" alt="small business" width="281" height="300" /></a></p>
<p>My offline business involves the marketing of First Aid Kits. What I did was to create a Free DVD with First Aid Tips and lots of enticing offers of course!</p>
<p>I also applied the well used list-building technique of creating a Free SPECIAL REPORT and inserted the link into all Marketing Literature.</p>
<p>If I can do it, you can do it too.</p>
<h2><strong>4.    </strong><strong>Become an Authority in your Small Business Niche</strong></h2>
<p>Small Businesses in the Service Sector are often run by highly skilled professionals turned entrepreneurs.  Even if you don’t know that much to start out, I remember a wise old saying that if you read a subject consistently for 3 years, you will become an authority in it.</p>
<p>The next step is to participate in phone-in shows, Television programmes, Public Speaking and generally get the word out.  It’s a done- deal marketing strategy, trust me.</p>
<p>The step that should not be forgotten is that you should find a way of offering your book, widget, service or whatever brings dough on the table, in your appearances.<strong></strong></p>
<h2><strong>5.    </strong><strong>Sharpen your Marketing Skills</strong></h2>
<p>&#8220;The 7 Habits of Highly Effective people by Steven Covey&#8221; is a reference book for many small business owners.  If I recollect clearly, a graphic picture of a man who spent 5hrs cutting down a tree was painted by the author. The lesson was that 4 of those 5 hours were spent “Sharpening the Saw”.  How current are your Marketing skills?  Do you have a Marketing Plan and a table of activities to run for the year?</p>

Simply expressed, all traditional advertising avenues are forced to experience unimaginable reduction in their revenues today. The major cause of this should not be far-fetched. <p>Yes, there are marketing coaches who have in-depth online savvy and who are ready to help in guiding you in your efforts.  Directly, this is what I am saying; there are internet marketers or coaches who render free support to help beginners in learning new things. Though they are in business to make money but this is not usually their primary consideration.  Paying them comes up at certain points down their training or coaching or when you need specific services or products from them</p>
<p>I know that you are about to ask about how then will you take your business online in totally free ways.  Following are my answers to your impending question.</p>
<h3>1.  Find Free Online Services Supporting Local Businesses</h3>
<p>For taking your local business online, Google Places is your best tool.  This service allows you to list the details of your local business to the extent that when your customers search for services or products which you offer, your business information will appear in the list. Also many online services have alternatives. Services comparable to Google Place are also available for you to explore.</p>
<p>The social media are also free services available to start with in creating online presence for your local business.  Please check out the details about Google Places and similar services.</p>
<h3>2.  Find Free Services or Resources from Helpful Coaches</h3>
<p>Doing this is as simple as searching online about this kind of coaches. The best point to start gaining free help from these benevolent internet marketers is by asking for or subscribing for their tutorials on topics that are interesting to you within their internet marketing niches.</p>
<h3>3.  Dedicate Your Time to Learn and to Implement the Knowledge Gained</h3>

<p>Dateline Friday 16<sup>th</sup> December, time: 17:50hrs GMT; the Managing Director of a Start-up enterprise desirous of business growth, was sweating visibly, pacing and panting. The deadline for the Expression of Interest Proposal for the restructuring of a large development bank was barely minutes away. All hands were on deck as staff of the firm hovered around, putting finishing touches and collating the document via the network.</p>
<p>Time, the ever marching constant, was ticking dangerously away. At exactly 17:58hrs, everyone heaved a sigh of relief as the Project Officer finally clicked ‘SEND’, and waited for the hour glass to roll out the “sent” checkmark.</p>
<p>Unbelievably, as if from a bad dream, a royal blue screen saver floated across the VDU&#8230;..”XYZ Internet Services wishes you a Merry Christmas, PLEASE RENEW YOUR SUBSCRIPTION”. With shock and palpitations, the MD bellowed “What the h&#8230;.k is up with you guys! Is the Admin. Department sabotaging the future of this company or what?”</p>
<p>Adrenaline rising, anger and disappointment all rolled into one.</p>
<p>You can imagine the rest of the story.  &#8220;Stuff&#8221; really does happen, but with a little planning, you can avoid major slip – ups that may prevent you from achieving sound business growth.</p>
<p>How serious is the problem?</p>
<p>If this was just a one – off incident in your business (which frankly to me is alarming enough!) you may say that you have systems in place to pay bills on time, renew premiums and such; after all we are human and mistakes happen once in a while.  However, if this has been happening like a recurring decimal, it’s time to create a proper Admin Schedule or Calendar with tasks and timelines. These are some of the essential tools for business growth.</p>
<p>Steps to Creating Your Admin Calendar</p>
<p>Take a sheet of paper and divide into 4 with a huge cross. In each quadrant, write the following categories: Weekly, Monthly, Quarterly and Yearly. Now put on your fanciest thinking cap <img src='http://www.cfagbata.com/mywp/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' />  and plug in telephone airtime top-ups, monthly Janitorial Service Charge, First Aid Box Refills, filling of Annual Tax Returns and other business commitments into the appropriate places in any order you like – this is the brainstorming (a time tested <strong>business growth</strong> tool) part.</p>
<p>Refer to documents that can jog your memory such as your list of files, past Payment Vouchers etc. If these sound alien to your business, you had better check out some more of my gradually evolving <a target="_blank" href="www.awesomebiztips.com/" class="broken_link" rel="nofollow">Business Tips</a> that will guaranty <em>business growth</em> over time.</p>
<p>Next, you go to Excel and create headings like Task, Responsibility, Amount Involved and columns for each month from January to December across the spreadsheet.</p>
<p>Now, like Leonardo Da Vinci painted Mona Lisa, armed with your mouse as paintbrush, fill in your excel “canvas” carefully but surely with every conceivable payment, renewal, office supplies stock replenishment etc. Put the name of the staff responsible, remarks if any and the amount of original “green backs” aka dollars you have to cough out for each. Don’t feel bad, it’s better you know just how much you will need to maintain the backbone of your business right from the onset, let the <a target="_blank" href="/marketing">marketing</a> folk know they are not the only ones who need a budget, daaah!</p>
<p>Apply a Catalyst to your <u>business growth</u> </p>
<p>Now, here’s the masterstroke for putting it all together. You need to ensure that a reminder is set a day or two before each task is due, depending on the lead time. If your business needs to make regular overseas payments, a longer notice is obviously required. You can use Outlook, your Admin Manager’s phone scheduler or something similar. The reminder is the real clincher.</p>
<p>That’s it from me! The stress-free way to avoid the pain and disappointment of administrative snags while ensuring business growth.</p>
